Keep the two service positions in the approval record
Worked review only. Inputs and acceptance criteria belong to the actual drawing; no customer test result or universal performance rating is claimed.
- Assembly sketch to supply
- Panel thickness and hole, retaining part, open and tightened positions, thread engagement and nearby obstructions.
- Sample review to agree
- Identify the panel, retainer and screw revisions; record retention, release clearance and reassembly against their separate criteria.
What retains the screw?
Describe the intended retaining component or geometry. Provide an assembly view and panel details. The screw alone does not establish whether the completed assembly will remain captive.
How much movement is needed?
Show required travel, open position and thread engagement. Explain how the operator installs and releases the fastener, including available access.
What happens during service?
Describe repeated access, vibration, cleaning and exposure conditions. These inputs inform the material, finish and design discussion; they do not replace assembly testing.
How will the assembly be verified?
Define retention and functional acceptance criteria with your engineering team. A dimensional inspection and an assembly test answer different questions.
What should accompany the RFQ?
Include the screw drawing, mating assembly, quantity and any sample photos. Unresolved retention details can be reviewed before a final quotation is issued.
Worked review: release a service panel without losing the screw
For a service-panel design exercise, begin with the intended installation sequence. Show how the screw and retaining part are assembled, which feature prevents escape after release, and where the screw sits once tightened. Check that the available released travel clears the mating thread and permits the panel to open. Then check that the retained hardware does not obstruct seating or reduce the required engagement. Record retention and opening/reassembly as separate checks against the identified panel and retainer revisions.
Use the RFQ preparation checklist, then submit your drawing for review. For acceptance requirements, see quality planning.
