DRAWING TO ACCEPTANCE

Define the check.
Agree the evidence.

Build the inspection plan around functional features, risk and the acceptance requirements of the actual order.

What an inspection record should let you verify

Surface & cleanliness

Coating thickness, agreed corrosion tests, burrs and specified cleanliness extraction/particle criteria.

Review the relevant process ↗

Functional & specialist tests

Torque, tensile, fatigue, metallography or hydrogen evaluation where the application calls for them.

Review the relevant process ↗

Full inspection where it is justified.

Agree which features need 100% screening and which use an approved sampling plan. Full dimensional screening does not replace material or destructive test requirements.

CCD optical dimensional inspection, thread gauges and mechanical testing address different characteristics. Non-contact silhouette measurement supports accessible external features; internal geometry and other requirements need appropriate complementary methods. Availability and any external laboratory arrangements are confirmed in the quotation.

Prepare the inspection plan ↗

Set three clear release checkpoints

Use the drawing revision and characteristic IDs to keep sample approval, lot acceptance and change approval connected. Agree the records required for the order before production.

Approve the sample basis

Identify the drawing revision, sample route, critical characteristics and mating-part reference. Record whether the submission contains measured values, screening results, material documents or an assembly trial.

Accept the lot in its supplied condition

For each characteristic, agree the method, stage, coverage and record. Keep individual measurements distinct from pass/fail screening, and specify any external test report separately.

Resolve changes and deviations

Record the affected requirement, proposed disposition and approval before release. If the drawing, route or finish changes, identify which checks and sample approvals must be repeated.

Build a characteristic-by-characteristic inspection plan

What an inspection record should let you verify

Build a traceable chain from each drawing requirement to the method, result and disposition. The downloadable forms below are planning templates; they contain no claimed production measurements.

What an inspection record should let you verify
ApplicationWhat to specifyWhat to check
Dimensional recordPart and drawing revision, lot, characteristic, limits, method/instrument identity, coverage and actual result.Distinguish recorded measurements from an agreed pass/fail screening result.
Material or treatment recordMaterial or treatment specification, lot reference and the documents or tests agreed for that requirement.Keep material identity, final hardness/strength and coating evidence distinguishable.
Assembly trialMating-part revision, installation method, functional criterion, outcome and approver.Record deviations and disposition; a dimensional pass does not establish assembly performance.

For example, CCD screening can evaluate a visible shoulder profile, a thread gauge addresses its specified thread requirement, and a material record addresses a different question again. Agree the relevant methods and any external test arrangements for the order; the template does not assert that every test is performed in-house.
