Identify what needs protection
Consider exposed threads, precision shoulders, applied locking material and any cleaned internal passage. State special protection requirements rather than assuming bulk packing is suitable for every part. The supplier needs to know which handling damage or contamination would make the component unacceptable.
Define quantities and identification
Agree pack quantity, part number, drawing revision and lot information required on the label. If similar products or mixed-thread ends are supplied, consider how the receiving team distinguishes them. Avoid introducing unapproved markings on the component itself to solve a packaging identification issue.
Coordinate cleanliness and preservation
Protective oil, corrosion prevention and clean packaging serve different needs and can conflict. Specify permitted residues and the expected condition at delivery. Packaging should follow the agreed cleaning and finishing sequence so it does not reintroduce contamination or damage a pre-applied feature.
Connect the lot to the records
Define which inspection or material documents accompany the shipment and how they relate to the identified lot. Keep the traceability requirement proportionate to the actual order. A label containing a batch number is only useful when the agreed records can be associated with that number.
Specification example
For two nearly identical shoulder lengths, use separate clearly labeled packages and the correct part references. A shared bulk bag can defeat otherwise careful dimensional inspection by creating an avoidable assembly mix-up.
