CCD Vision & Dimensional Inspection

Non-contact optical checks for screw length, head diameter and visible stepped profiles, combined with the gauges and tests required by the drawing.

CCD optical dimension checks

Camera-based vision measurement uses suitable optics, lighting and calibrated edge detection to check accessible external dimensions such as overall length, head diameter and shoulder profile. A stable presentation and validated inspection program are needed for the specified part.

Complementary verification

Silhouette inspection does not establish internal geometry, material strength or every thread characteristic. Use the specified thread gauges, additional dimensional methods and functional tests where required. Agree acceptance criteria and the actual inspection coverage.

Material and mechanical checks

Material documentation, HV/HRC hardness, tensile, torque or destructive testing are selected when applicable. A test name needs a method, sample quantity and acceptance criterion.

Surface and specialist checks

Coating thickness, specified salt-spray testing, metallography, fatigue and hydrogen-embrittlement evaluation require an agreed scope. Salt spray results do not directly predict service life.

Sampling versus full inspection

Agree which characteristics receive 100% screening, sampling or first-article approval. Equipment availability, external laboratory work and reporting are confirmed for the order; no unverified in-house laboratory claim is made.

Prepare a complete specification

Use the RFQ checklist, review materials and include the required inspection and documentation.

Drawing review example

Use CCD for visible dimensions, then cover the blind spots

Illustrative drawing review. Confirm the route, dimensions and acceptance for your part.

What drives the route
For a shoulder screw, identify the length and visible diameter or step that a stable, calibrated silhouette can evaluate. Present representative good, borderline and rejected samples at the expected orientations to verify the program. A view of the outline does not reveal the internal bore or material condition.
What changes the quotation
Separate the agreed optical screening characteristics from sampled thread, bore, hardness or coating checks. Agree the feature limits, reference method, sampling and records. A request for 100% screening needs a list of covered characteristics rather than a promise to measure everything.
How to release the sample
Compare results near the limits against the agreed reference, verify rejection handling, and record the drawing and program revision. Retain separate results for thread gauges, internal features and any material testing so a single pass flag is not mistaken for complete acceptance.

Resolve these items during technical review. Each row identifies a decision or evidence requirement; it does not imply a universal process limit or an in-house equipment claim.

AFTER PROCESSING

See the resulting feature.

Visual references help explain geometry and finish. Material properties, coating performance and acceptance require the agreed inspection methods.

Inspection — dimensional review
Process outcome reference; final requirements follow the approved drawing.

Match each feature to its inspection evidence

For a shoulder screw with a bore, split the review into separate characteristics. This planning example shows why an external camera result, a thread gauge and an internal check are not interchangeable.
