Identify the component being clamped
Provide the pipe or frame cross-section and any saddle or liner. State whether contact is intended along a radius or against flat faces. The nominal outside size may not describe corner radii, coatings or protective layers that affect the actual fit.
Dimension from consistent references
Show inside width, bend radius or profile, leg length and threaded length using clear references. Avoid mixing outside and inside dimensions without defining the rod section. Include leg parallelism or position requirements when they affect installation into a bracket or plate.
Review bending and the material condition
The selected grade, section and final condition affect how the bend is produced and verified. Specify mechanical and surface requirements instead of assuming any rod can be bent to the same shape without consequences. Manufacturing feasibility must be confirmed for the actual geometry.
Include the rest of the joint
Nuts, washers, saddles and supporting plates form the complete connection. Identify required engagement and any assembly restrictions. Agree the finished coating and a useful fit check so production inspection evaluates the part in the condition that will be supplied.
Specification example
If the U-bolt passes through two holes in a plate, supply the hole spacing and clearance. A correct bend profile alone does not guarantee that both threaded legs will enter the plate.
RFQ checklist
- Clamped cross-section and liner
- Inside width and bend profile
- Leg length and alignment
- Threaded engagement
- Material, finish and fit check
Use the RFQ preparation checklist, then submit your drawing for review. For acceptance requirements, see quality planning.
General guidance only. Material properties, tolerances, standards and manufacturing feasibility must be verified for the actual specification. This article does not establish a product performance guarantee.
