Separate unchanged inputs from the proposed change
Worked review only. Inputs and acceptance criteria belong to the actual drawing; no customer test result or universal performance rating is claimed.
- Keep the comparison basis
- Bracket and slot revision, mating material, coating, assembly method and agreed acceptance criteria.
- Compare the two arrangements
- Supported footprint, transition clearance, washer contribution to grip length, engagement and marking after the agreed service sequence.
Start with the mating surface
Identify the material beneath the flange and the available contact area. A soft panel, coated bracket and rigid machined seat respond differently. Show holes, slots and nearby edges so the bearing footprint can be reviewed against the real supporting surface.
Dimension the flange as a functional feature
Specify diameter, thickness and the transition beneath the head. Include flatness or surface requirements when they affect contact. Thin flanges and large overhangs should not be assumed to distribute load uniformly; their behavior needs review with the intended connection and material condition.
Choose the face condition deliberately
Plain, textured and serrated bearing faces are not interchangeable. A serration may change the contact behavior and affect a coating or soft surface. Explain whether the priority is appearance, resistance to movement, contact pressure or another function, then agree the relevant acceptance checks.
Include the finish and tightening conditions
Coating thickness and friction can influence the assembled joint. Treat the flange face and threads as specified surfaces, not simply parts of an overall color requirement. Any comparison with a washer assembly should consider the complete joint rather than the number of handled components.
Worked review: compare an integral flange with a washer assembly
For a coated slotted bracket, compare the existing head-and-washer arrangement with the proposed integral flange on the same bracket drawing. Identify the supporting surface left around the slot and the areas that must remain clear. Review flange or washer overhang, the under-head transition and permissible coating marks. Account for the washer thickness when comparing grip length and usable engagement. Keep the assembly method and acceptance criteria explicit; fewer loose components do not establish equivalent bearing behavior or retained clamp load.
Specification example
When replacing a loose washer with an integral flange, provide both assembly drawings. The review should compare the supporting footprint and seating condition before treating the two arrangements as equivalent.
RFQ checklist
