Specify material condition, contact end and surface requirements for the actual function.
Include adjustment range, wrench access and any repeated assembly requirements.
A fixture needs a defined workpiece reference as well as enough clearance to load and remove the part. Show which screw surface sets that reference, which contact can wear and which feature only clamps.
| Assembly function | Specify with the mating parts | Acceptance and next review |
|---|---|---|
| Locate a removable fixture element | Identify the working step or shoulder, mating bore and seating face. Dimension functional steps from the agreed datums, rather than accumulating unrelated lengths. Multi-Step & Multi-Shoulder Screws | Check the finished locating surfaces and the mating fit. Trial removal and refitting against the specified reference position. Secondary & Precision Operations |
| Set an adjustable workpiece stop | Define the contact point or pad, adjustment travel, locking method and permitted marking on the workpiece. Identify any replaceable contact element. Custom Set Screws & Grub Screws | Record the stop position and contact condition before and after the agreed adjustment sequence. Compare position repeatability separately from visible wear. Material-Specific Heat Treatment |
| Clamp through a machine or fixture slot | Show the actual slot section, head pocket, insertion path and bearing area. Define engaged thread and the stack to be clamped. Custom T-Slot Bolts | Check insertion, head seating and anti-rotation in the intended slot. Confirm that the head bears on the specified face without bottoming elsewhere. Secondary & Precision Operations |
Compare the replacement pad thickness, contact shape and material condition with the approved setup. A new pad can shift the workpiece reference even when the screw setting is unchanged. Re-establish the reference position, check the adjustment limits and record the pad and screw revisions. Separate setup measurements from any subsequent workpiece inspection so a successful fixture check is not mistaken for product acceptance.
Design-review examples, not customer delivery records. Select the actual limits and checks for the ordered assembly.
Compare set-screw points and contact markingFor a fixture stop, include the mating surface, tip form and locking method. Distinguish a dimension used for clearance from a surface that establishes the actual workpiece position.
Examples describe application requirements. Material suitability, production scope and verification are confirmed against the approved drawing.

A hand-adjusted screw must be accessible, comfortable to grip and compatible with the required adjustment. Head texture alone does not define how the mechanism works.
ENGINEERING GUIDESeveral shoulders can locate several components. A clear dimension scheme explains which axial distances control the assembly and which are consequences of other dimensions.
